THE CURIOUS OBSERVATORY

The Human Race is a paradox and our minds put us in complete contradiction from one another. We are equally as creative and constructive as we are wasteful and destructive. We seek friendship and happily exist in social groups then we create war and make others our enemies. We show compassion, love and care for some, but are happy to fight and kill others. We are complicated and therefore make the simple things difficult. We have a need to know who we are and why, instead of accepting that there is no reason to know. We are not put here, we simply exist here but as humans, we continually ask why when there is no answer.
We think, we feel, we laugh, we cry. We strive, we suffer, we go around and around. The very things inside our heads like imagination, spiritual awareness and our pride and consciousness, are also the things that play in our minds and gives us cause to worry, show fear and become concerned. So what came first? Was it our cares and woes which made us human or do our heads swim in complete confusion because we have now created this human condition, thus separating ourselves from all other species and reality. Is it all in the mind or have we created our minds since.
We could all be free, if only we could stop thinking that we’re not. In the Curious Observatory that is our head, anything is possible. Feel it.

ERA

2025 starts with the duo working on their 6th album based upon the Victorian period. Kym writes of steam powered engines and heavy turbines and Lee powers the music along with heavy metal riffs and orchestrated themes. The
music shifts in order to tell the story of the Suffragettes, the creativity of Lewis Carroll and Jules Verne before descending into the darkness of Jack the Ripper.
The song Elephant Man, is the story of the unfortunate Joseph (John) Merrick who suffered with Proteus Syndrome. It’s a quirky, off beat waltz with the sounds of fairground and jeering spectators.

RITUAL

Album 5 and the end of 2024. Lee suggests an album about witchcraft and satanism to Kym and mentions Aleister Crowley, the early 20th century poet and occultist. Over the next few months Kym writes lyrics about Wicca, ancient rituals and other alternative beliefs. The reference to Crowley is scattered throughout the album. There’s mention about his Hellfire Club and rumoured connection with Winston Churchill, Ian Fleming and other notable dignitaries.
The music takes on a more sinister feel with much use of effects, dark polyrhythms and voices. The Prophet of Thelema is accompanied by their first ever use of AI technology in order to create a music video. Lee was the sole creator of the video now published on YouTube.

FOR THE PEOPLE

The 4th album and the second in 2024. Kym writes about the pressures of modern living and the unfair injustices of the 21st century. A young man decides to rebel and he creates a following of anarchists against the system.
There’s references in the lyrics that this person could be the son of our intrepid traveller from Silver Ride. They campaign against political misconduct, failing law and order, and the ever growing cost of living. They rally to the cause and become a noticeable thorn in the side against the establishment. During one such rally our anarchist is arrested and unfairly treated. The album finishes with him going mad, locked away in an asylum. The music takes on a folky, more acoustic, Tull like sound, full of hippy type philosophy and meaning.

THE JOURNEY HOME

2024 and the story continues. The album begins with our traveller drifting through space on another search for his utopia. Suddenly, he’s spotted and abducted by aliens who after hearing his story, eventually decide to help and return him to a better time. He undergoes time travel and finally, he’s where he belongs. He realises that it’s not about running away trying to find the perfect life, it’s about making the best of where you are and appreciating what you have. The album ends with him landing in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk in 1980, and he is strangely back with his young partner from the future.

SILVER RIDE OF A LIFETIME

After the pleasing results of their first collaborative album, things were turned up a notch. Terra Nova was decided to be the name the two worked under and in 2023 they came back with their second offering. Lee had built a full studio
set up at his home and had acquired a lot more technology and instrumentation. Kym had decided to take on the roll of all the vocals and lyrics giving Lee the time to focus on playing all instruments, mixing, and mastering the tracks.
SR1 follows Kym’s story set in the future about a disillusioned man, tired of all he sees and hears as Earth falls into a dystopian world. He decides to leave and seek a new life elsewhere. The album follows his exploration across space, his discoveries and final return to Earth after realising he’d made a bad decision. Unfortunately, there was a shift in time travel and he finds himself on a barren, post apocalyptic world. He has no choice but to return to the stars.

TERRA NOVA

In 2020 Kym and Lee took themselves away from playing live and decided to focus upon studio work. Their idea was to create a catalogue of concept albums of which TERRA NOVA was the first. It was the start of a perfect collaboration whereby Kym and Lee wrote, performed and sung all the songs. Terra Nova is the story of Captain Scott’s ill-fated journey across Antarctica in 1901.
A soundscape of progressive rock with cracking ice and shifting snow, setting the scene. The album ends with the death of Scott and his remaining team members who perished in their tent, trapped by a freezing storm with no
provisions left.
