FOR THE PEOPLE LYRICS

Ascent
I have little faith
I no longer believe them
They just waste my time
Does anyone care?
I've got to do something
Cos there has to be change

At the Start
I have a good idea, what if we all become one?
United front against a system that no longer works
Mankind be as one, the laws they are a changing
The bullshit falls and all the rules will have some reason
Or do I talk of treason?
I’m not talking of a fight or create a revolution
I’m just asking for what’s right, to formulate solution
No need to be aggressive or harm ourselves between
But simply find where everyone agrees, everyone agrees
So put it to a vote so we can all have hope
A collective world all for the reasons to make it all work
Our minds become as one, complication now ending
Old rule makers fall and people have purpose
No more the fake circus
I’m not talking of a fight or create a revolution
I’m just asking for what’s right, to formulate solution
No need to be aggressive or harm ourselves between
But simply find where everyone agrees, everyone agrees
Father said just do your best
Cos time and tide will do the rest
And don’t be a sheep in a field waiting to die
Only seeing your life pass you by
Farmers dog making you queue outside
Slaughterers gun can be heard there inside
I’m not talking of a fight or create a revolution
I’m just asking for what’s right, to formulate solution
No need to be aggressive or harm ourselves between
But simply find where everyone agrees, everyone agrees

A Mission
It’s not enough I hear them scold
We have no hope we’re all controlled
Why do we settle for second best
Let’s put our theories to the test
Ban the man who runs and hides
When people want to turn the tide
For he is not the ruling kind
When we the people are one mind
Start again with better rules
We the people have the tools
Break down walls and build again
A thousand followers becoming ten
Why can’t we have our say?
To fight and live I pray
Work towards a bigger reason
The sun will rise on better seasons
The mission that I preach, is to stand up and teach
We owe it to the people, to conquer over evil…
Why can’t we have our say
To fight and live I pray
The sun will rise on better seasons
The mission that I preach, is to stand up and teach
We owe it to the people, to conquer over evil…
Why can’t we have our say?

The Very Next Revolution
I’d like to sing you all my song
I’d like you all to clap your hands and sing along
I want to make a different world, you know!
I want to show these politicians where to go
So welcome, say hello to the very next revolution
So welcome, speak your mind at the very next revolution
Would you like more money and do what you like
Tell your local MP ‘get off your arse, and fight’
As a child I was told about the things we’d ill afford
Daddy took a spaceship ride to try and gain reward
So welcome, say hello to the very next revolution
So welcome, don’t be afraid, it’s the very next revolution
We pass down through our family tree
What we believe in cos it somehow sets us free
And now you’re feeling rather old
You realise all you’re doing is what yer told
So welcome, say hello to the very next revolution
So welcome, let’s get this done at the very next revolution
So welcome, it’s gonna be a bloody good revolution
So welcome, John and Yoko to the very next revolution

Just a Point of View
I might not understand the reasons for what they do
They’re also not the kind to change their point of view
Although I watch the news to see what they have done
It doesn’t mean that I agree
Just yesterday I saw the devil in disguise
I noticed various politicians by his side
Although they try so hard to look like they mean well
It doesn’t mean that much to me
Well it’s just their point of view
But it changes what we do
Your common sense is just so rare
Understand, we just don’t care
You fight your friends and make them enemies the same day
So don’t turn your back on anybody on the way
You might apologise and tell us you were wrong
Your words don’t mean that much to me
Cos it’s just a point of view
But it changes what we do
It’s so disgraceful you’re unaware
Come on argue with me, I don’t care!
Well it’s just their point of view
But it changes what we do
Your common sense is just so rare
Understand, we just don’t care
Just don’t care, no-one cares

For the People
What is it for?
What does it mean?
Why does it matter?
Why is it here?
How could it be?
How do we know?
Do you believe?
Or is it just so?
Is there a time?
Is there an answer?
Where is your god?
Does he really care?
It’s for the people
You can read all the books
If you think there’s a need
But is the need really real?
Oh why, when there’s colourful rainbows, hills, mountains and streams
and so much to live for
Tell me why when there’s beautiful skies, sun, sea and space
You still need things to die for
There’s too many problems
Created by lies
The prophets have answers
Heavily disguised
So what is it for?
What does it all mean?
It’s all just an illusion
It’s all a bad dream
So why when there’s colourful rainbows, hills, mountains and streams
and so much to live for
Tell me why when there’s beautiful skies, sun, sea and space
We still find things to kill for
It just leaves me hanging!

The Root
If I saw the world through rose coloured glasses
And paradise was something just in view
If I saw the sky all covered in rainbows
And every cloud wore sunshine as it grew
If I saw the majesty of all seven wonders
And everywhere on earth was green and true
If all the things I touched were teddy bear soft
Still nothing, no, no nothing
Could compare
Could compare
Could compare to you

Friction
I sense they dislike me but I only mean well
It’s all for the good that I drive a hard sell
We deserve so much better, to believe in ourselves
Our days have hit rock bottom
Our thoughts are on the shelf
They call me rebel so that’s my name
They think I’m trouble and they lay me to blame
I make daddy proud I know that he can see
The world needs to change, it’s all for our memory
No-one likes the rules when the rules are all wrong
Lift up the banner and strike up the song
They’ll hear us all chant as voices get higher
March united as one, throw their books on the fire
They call me rebel so that’s my name
They think I’m trouble and they lay me to blame
They’ve made me a culprit and none of them see
Their minds need to change to set themselves free
I sense some friction in the air
I know what I’ve become
A thorn in their side, with nowhere to hide or run
Hide or run
I get the pressure from you, you tell me what I should do
But I can’t change, what is right from wrong
Right from wrong
I sense that friction in the air
Ooh, what have I become?
I will see the flags unfurl
Let conscience be my guide
They call me rebel so that’s my name
They think I’m trouble and they lay me to blame
I’m doing my best but losing the fight
I even hear them say….that I’m not quite right!

The Rally
Frustration builds, the people cry
Flags and banners flying high
An army strong begins to break
Leaving damage in their wake

Stocks & Bombs
My god, it’s going wrong
This is not what I foresaw
Anger in the streets
Thugs and vandals breaking the law
Breaking the law
Fires are breaking out
Cars are being overturned
The corner shops alight
Peaceful marching in the streets
Turning to a fight, now turning to a fight
Stop and think, listen to me
It’s not the way to be
My father was always questioning
It’s now the same for me
It’s not the way to be
There has to be more reasoning
You can’t fight this huge machine
Not by simply getting angry
Act with rhyme and reason
I can’t have hate all around me
You’re doing unto them
As they now do to you
We should be sitting round a table
There’s plenty we can do
Plenty we should do
Stop your hatred, it doesn’t help the cause
Let’s all be good people and open closing doors
Let’s stop this riot and sit around a table
There’s plenty we can do, plenty we can do
Stop, listen to me
It’s not the way to be
I had such good intentions
This hatred spoils it for me
It’s not the way to be
You’ll never get them listening
Poor old JFK now I know how he was feeling
The same for MLK, I don’t know now what is happening

Mental Health
I smashed my tv and I’ve lost all my friends
I broke up my past, it’s so easy to offend
I wrecked all I had and forgot what was mine
I threw out what’s needed and I wasted my time
I kicked all good habits and I enjoy a good drink
I hate all those people
I created a monster, no-one knows what I think
Red, blue or yellow, but your pens the same ink
I tried to be helpful, I thought I could see
I was breaking the system but all I damaged was me
I'm branded and troubled I feel like a martyr
There's no one to save me before or after
Now my work is done though I hear no applause
It’s all a waste of time despite believing the cause
I have no more energy or hope
No more time left, hanging by a rope
I can't even remember the thoughts that were mine
My paranoia’s creeping in
Now as I sink into paranoid past
Remember my mission is all I ask

In My Shell
I hide in my shell, I’ve nothing more to sell
All my words are whispers in corridors of hell
I hear echoes of the past when I tried to be great
But now I have fallen I feel so much hate
I wanted to do so much more for the people
Cos all I could see was conflict and evil
So what do I do I can help you no more
I sit in my prison behind a closed door
Well, I could rise again but I’d need you all to help me
But how can you even try, when you can’t see what I see
So sort it out yourselves in your lost and lonely worlds
And as we’re all forgotten, disaster will unfurl

Happy Now
Minding my own business, staring at the sky
Remembering the things I’ve done
But I don't know why
Doing all those crazy things I know you think are stupid
Are important to me
I've got nowhere to go, I’ve got no-one to see
No-one sees me but I’m happy now
I get a little anxious, when nursie comes to see
Dishing out her potions
What's she got for me?
Doing all those crazy things that gives me such direction
Is important to me
There’s too many questions, and not enough answers
No-one hears me but I’m happy now
I once commanded authority, people they followed me
The banners were rising
Truth was on the horizon
Changing all those crazy regulations for the people
Was important to me
But they punished me, and they imprisoned me
You've all forgotten me, but I’m happy now
I've got my bench-seat, I can stare at the trees
And they can stare back at me
Cos I’m happy now
No need to even visit me
Cos I’m happy now, I’m happy now

Around & Around
We were a million strong people together
Though it just takes one man
To create war or go in peace or live in terror
All it takes is his plan, it goes around and around
We gamble life and hope things just get better
Throw a dice, show our hand
It’s like you only get one chance to be a winner
Flick a coin, watch it land, it goes around and around
On our way, every day, in and out, day by day
Round and round, upside down, yesterday, and today
It was forever, forever never, stick together, around and round
But life still goes on
Sick people messed up with what they’re doing
So they all run and hide
They watch too much tv and pray together
Ha, I hope gods on their side, it goes around and around
Like a merry go round
Life goes round and round
Until you’re dead in the ground
Around, around, around
Listen to me, help yourselves, you’re all stuck in your mental cells
Are you happy now? Happy now? Really? Smash the tv, burn the papers!
You can be anyone, you are everyone, but you’re nobody until you speak
You’re going round and round, going round and round, round and round,
Round and round, ha! Going round and round, round and round
Shame on you!
Life still goes on!...

Descent
I still have little faith
And I won’t ever believe them
So we’ve reached the end
What are you gonna do?
It’s all been a waste of time
You know there’s more for you
We’ll have to do something
Or there’ll never be change
So I take my leave
And I wish the best for you
I feel that we failed
But we showed them a thing or two
You have to do something
Or your life stays the same
